Grand Prix of Soccer (GPS)
The GPS is an event that involves all of FC LVU’s 3v3 indoor tournaments. Teams will receive points based on their performance in each 3v3 tournament. At the conclusion of the GPS season (final event will be the President’s Day 3v3), the top scoring teams in each age group will be declared champions.
Each 3v3 will still operate as a self-contained event and will be subject to the normal rules and regulations.
Competition Rules
Teams must compete under the same team name for the entire indoor tournament season. From the first event in which a team participates, at least THREE players must be on the roster for any subsequent event. If a team is not able to play with at least three of the original players, then they must enter under a different team name for said event. The new team will still earn points toward the GPS championship.
Ex. Players A-E are on a team for the Columbus Day 3v3. They next participate in the Thanksgiving Gobblefest play with players A, B, C plus two new players. At the Holiday Rock n Goal they compete with players C, D, E plus another two new players that haven’t yet played with the team.
If more than two players will be changed for any reason for a given event, those players will need to compete under a different team name. If they can meet the roster requirements for a future event, they can then compete under the original team name and therefore earn GPS championship points.
If two age groups are combined for a given event, both teams will be scored relative to their own age group. The top placing team from each age will earn 1st place points, down to as many places as there are teams competing in the event. Therefore, despite playing against different aged competition, the effect on the overall GPS season will be minimal.
Ex. If a U8 team loses in the final against a U9 team, both of those teams would receive 1st place points for being the top placing team in their age group. The remaining teams would be scored relative to the other teams in their age group. Teams eliminated at the same round of the competition will be placed based on tiebreakers.
Scoring System
1st – 25 points
2nd – 18 points
3rd – 15 points
4th – 12 points
5th – 10 points
6th – 8 points
7th – 6 points
8th – 4 points
9th – 2 points
10th – 1 points
Scores will be updated at the conclusion of each event and kept posted on the FC LVU website. Teams will be able to check their entire age group’s standings shortly after each event.
Loyalty Bonus
Teams will earn an additional 5 points for each event in which they participate. Teams will earn 5 points for their first event, 10 for their second, 15 for their third, 20 for their fourth, 25 for their fifth, and 30 for their sixth.
Prize
Each team will have their picture taken with the GPS trophy for display on the FC LVU website, will receive special championship medals, and will have their team name etched onto a gender-specific champions plaque that will hang at the Turff Club.
Tiebreakers
The same tiebreakers used in each 3v3 event will also be calculated from all events in the GPS season to determine GPS champions (if necessary):
1. Head to Head
2. Goals Differential
3. Most Wins
4. Most Shutouts
If two teams are tied at the conclusion of the President’s Day 3v3, the above tiebreakers will be used. All events an individual team has participated in during the GPS season will be factored into the tiebreaker. It is possible that teams who are tied will have played a different number of games from one another throughout the GPS season.
